Vision Sciences Association at Iowa logo: a gold and black stylized eye above the organization name

We connect the people who study vision at the University of Iowa: students, postdocs, and faculty across psychology, medicine, engineering, and business.

Our mission

To support the advancement of vision sciences by facilitating interdisciplinary dialogue and research communication for students and researchers across campus and the state of Iowa community.

Why we exist

Vision research at Iowa happens in many places: psychological and brain sciences, ophthalmology and optometry, the business school, the driving safety research institute, radiology, and engineering. These groups ask related questions with different tools, but they often work separately.

We exist to bring them into the same room, and to make their work understandable to people outside the lab.

What we do

Events

Talks, panels, and joint events that pair basic vision science with its applications in medicine, technology, and industry.

Science communication

Articles and short videos, written and produced by members, that explain vision research to people who do not read academic papers.
